SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "The Present," the mid-season finale of "The Flash."

In "The Present," the mid-season finale of "The Flash," Team Flash had a close encounter with the deadly speedster Savitar. However, it's that close encounter that enabled them to figure out his weakness: the Philosopher's Stone.

"The Flash's" Philosopher's Stone isn't quite like the one in "Harry Potter." When wielded by Doctor Alchemy, the Philosopher's Stone is able to give ordinary humans metahuman abilities -- but that's not all. When the stone is placed in its box, Savitar is prevented from moving freely about Barry's earth. So, as soon as Barry and his team got their hands on it, they took the stone, sealed it inside its box and hurled it into the Speed Force.

The ensuing Speed Force explosion knocked Barry a full five months into the future. Disoriented and lost, he wandered out of the alley he appeared in and stumbled right onto his future self -- and he wasn't alone. He showed right up in the middle of a standoff between his future self and Savitar, who held Iris dangling from one massive hand. Present day Barry could only stand by and watch in horror as Savitar took one long claw and stabbed Iris in the chest, effectively killing her, before Jay Garrick whisked him back to the present day.

As viewers were apt to notice, a five month gap lands the show right around the time of the Season 3 finale. As such, it looks like we won't get a resolution to this storyline until then. This is reminiscent of the storyline that "Arrow" pulled off last year, which revealed a member of Team Arrow died but didn't divulge who that person was until midway through the season.

Considering her impending death, Barry began to pick up the pace in his relationship with Iris. As such, he purchased a home for the two of them to live in. At this point in time, though, it's unclear if his knowing the future will steer Iris towards her fate with Savitar or if Barry has already begun to alter the future that he saw. After all, Jay Garrick told him that the future he saw was only one of million possible futures, though the back half of Season 3 will surely build to this moment.

Additionally, Barry revealed his true identity to Julian Albert, who has no idea that he had been masquerading as Doctor Alchemy; this way, Barry earned Julian's trust and was able to uncover key information about Alchemy and Savitar. Team Flash was able to use Julian as a conduit through which to speak to Savitar, who told the team that one of them would betray the others and that another would die, which seems to be Iris. He also knew each member of the team individually and blamed the Flash from trapping him.

On a happier note, Wally was also gifted with a Kid Flash suit, which means his training is full speed ahead. It's unclear how quickly Team Flash will usher him into the field, but he's certainly moving on from his secret training with HR.

Starring Grant Gustin as the Scarlet Speedster, "The Flash" airs Tuesdays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW. The series also stars Jesse L. Martin, Tom Cavanagh, Carlos Valdes, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Keiynan Lonsdale and more.
