DC Studios' upcoming superhero film The Flash has received its film rating.According to One Take News on Twitter, the DC Universe film has been officially rated PG-13 for "sequences of violence and action, some strong language and partial nudity" by the Motion Picture Association. The MPA rating for The Flash shouldn't come as much of a surprise to DCU fans since most of the films released as part of the shared universe have fallen into the PG-13 category. Birds of Prey (2020), Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021) and The Suicide Squad (2021) are the only films that earned an R-rating from the MPA that are part of the DCU (formerly the DC Extended Universe).
Directed by Andy Muschietti, The Flash finds Ezra Miller's titular Scarlet Speedster traveling back in time to prevent his mother's murder. However, after altering the timeline, The Flash finds himself trapped in an alternate reality without metahumans. To set things right, he teams up with an older Batman (Michael Keaton) as well as the Kryptonian castaway Supergirl (Sasha Calle) to save the new timeline from the forces of General Zod (Michael Shannon) and return to his universe.
Tom Cruise Loves The Flash Movie
While The Flash will not have its world premiere until April 25 at CinemaCon, one person not connected to the production has already seen the full movie -- Top Gun: Maverick star Tom Cruise. The actor recently met with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav. During the meeting, the CEO mentioned how great The Flash is, and Cruise requested to see it. Zaslav obliged and a copy of the film was brought to the actor's Beverly Hills residence. According to insiders, following the screening of the film, Cruise was so impressed that he called up Muschietti to praise the movie, telling the director that The Flash is "everything you want in a movie" and that "this is the kind of movie we need now."
Miller leads The Flash, reprising their role as Barry Allen/The Flash for the fifth time in the DCU. The upcoming DCU movie also stars Ben Affleck and Keaton as their respective Caped Crusaders, Calle as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, Shannon as General Zod, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Antje Traue as Faora-Ul and Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen. The Flash will also reportedly include a scene with Barry Allen meeting "a character from a long time ago in the DC world," although who that character is remains unknown at this time.
The Flash opens in theaters on June 16.
