WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for The Flash #751, by Joshua Williamson, Christian Duce, Luis Guerrero, Hi-Fi and Steve Wands, on sale now.

In the pages of The Flash, a new villain named Paradox has quickly established himself as one of the most powerful new additions to the DC Universe in years. However, the character didn't stay a mystery for long -- in fact, shortly after first being mentioned by name, the character's origin was revealed in The Flash #88. As it turns out, Paradox was once a Central City scientist who was transformed by his equipment on the same night Barry Allen was struck by lightning.

Paradox became lost in time and traveled to the days of the 25th century, where he learned to use his powers. After being stuck there, Paradox returned to the present and revealed himself to Barry Allen, declaring war on the Scarlet Speedster. But, as we learn in The Flash #751, there's only one hope for Barry to defeat his new nemesis: Eobard Thawne, the Reverse-Flash.

The Flash Paradox

In the anniversary issue The Flash #750, Paradox unleashed a secret weapon on the Scarlet Speedster in form of Godspeed, whom he had manipulated into siding with him. Unfortunately for the new villain, Godspeed ends up switching sides during the brawl between the two speedsters. This prompts Paradox to finally get involved and personally unleash his devastating abilities on the Flash.

This takes Barry completely by surprise. Paradox proves to be so much of a physical threat that the hero has no hope of defeating him. He advises Iris to call in the Justice League, but she tells him to run, because the Justice League won't be able to help him. As she tells him, Thawn is the only person who can help him defeat Paradox.

The seeds to this revelation were planted long ago. In fact, in 2018's The Flash Annual #1 by Williamson and Howard Porter, Commander Cold hinted at a heroic turn for the Reverse-Flash when he said: "The one good thing Thawne ever did was catch--" only he was cut off before he could finish his sentence.

The second half of that statement would arrive two years later in The Flash #88, where we saw Paradox travel to the 25th century shortly after he was transformed and gained his full powers. There, the villain aimed to lay waste to Barry Allen's legacy, but his threat proved so great that the villainous Reverse-Flash showed up to stop him. Eobard Thawne may be Barry Allen's greatest enemy, but he still broke good long enough to take down Paradox and lock him up in Iron Heights prison.

But now, Paradox has been freed, and he has returned to the present. And now, the Flash's only hope of stopping Paradox may be to team-up with his greatest nemesis to take out an even bigger threat.
