The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace said disruptions caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic -- which caused the show to end Season 6 before completing all of its scheduled episodes -- did unexpectedly help producers with Season 7.

In Season 6, an injured Frost left Team Flash with her mother to heal a hypothermic reaction, and Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) made an excursion to Atlantis. Off-screen, Frost actor Danielle Panabaker was on maternity leave during the hiatus, and Wallace told TVLine that the production delay helped producers get Frost back into the action earlier in the season.

"Caitlin, because of COVID, came back sooner than expected; that was a real blessing," Wallace said. "You won’t have to wait long at all for Caitlin and Frost to return, and we actually added scenes to bring Frost in at least two to three episodes sooner than originally planned. Same thing with Cisco. Let's just say that he comes back wiser and with the skills and talents to help them defeat Eva."

Panabaker was expecting her first child during Season 6, and the show hid the pregnancy with a weakened Frost lying down, trying to recover from a battle with the villain Sunshine. Panabaker and husband Hayes Robbins welcomed their baby in April 2020.
