The Flash will explore multiple alternate realities during the course of its story, particularly the universe of Michael Keaton's Batman. According to director Andy Muschetti, that approach will serve as the foundation for future films based on DC properties.

"This movie is a bit of a hinge in the sense that it presents a story that implies a unified universe where all the cinematic iterations that we’ve seen before are valid," Muschietti told Vanity Fair. "It’s inclusive in the sense that it is saying all that you’ve seen exists, and everything that you will see exists, in the same unified multiverse."

Miller's Flash first crossed dimensions during The CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, where he met that universe's Barry Allen (Grant Gustin). Before fading out of existence, Miller's Allen said, "I told Victor this was possible," hinting at his attempt to cross into other dimensions.

The Flash is finally gearing up to hit theaters after several screenwriters and directors left the project; Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will pen the latest version of the script. Ben Affleck will also reprise his role of Batman one more time for the film.

Directed by Andy Muschietti with a script by Christina Hodson, The Flash stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen. The film arrives in theaters June 3, 2022.
