Director Andy Muschietti's upcoming DC Extended Universe film The Flash will feature a new actor in the role of Henry Allen, father of main protagonist Barry Allen. The Hollywood Reporter recently reported that Maribel Verdú had boarded The Flash as Nora Allen, Barry's mother. The outlet also revealed that Billy Crudup, who was previously slated to reprise his role as Henry Allen from Justice League, had dropped out of the upcoming film due to scheduling conflicts.RELATED: The Flash Movie Brings Back Kiersey Clemons as Iris WestThe original article did not specify whether the character of Henry would be recast or written out of the film. However, THR writer Borys Kit has since issued a clarification on Twitter. "Because some of you demanded an answer (and I didn't make clear in the article)... the part of Barry Allen's father will be recast," Kit wrote. "It was not written out."

In the DC Comics universe, Nora was murdered when Barry was only a child -- years before he became the superhero known as the Flash. Henry was framed and subsequently incarcerated for the crime, with Barry dedicating his life to proving his father's innocence. This plot point is alluded to in Justice League, which features a scene where Barry (Ezra Miller) visits Henry (Crudup) in prison. There is currently no word on who will step up to play Henry opposite Miller's Barry in The Flash.
