Two major characters from Man of Steel look to be returning to the DC Extended Universe in The Flash.

According to Warner Bros., both Michael Shannon and Antje Traue are part of The Flash's cast. Shannon played General Zod in Man of Steel, while Traue played Faora-Ul.

Noticeably absent from the cast list is Henry Cavill, who played Clark Kent/Superman in the same film that introduced Zod and Faora. However, Sasha Calle is on board as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, so the additional Kryptonians could be used to bolster her first DCEU outing.

Beyond Zod, Faora, Supergirl and the Scarlet Speedster himself, The Flash features not one but two Batmen in Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton (there are also two Flashes, for that matter, both played by Ezra Miller). Keaton's return was announced in June 2020, with news of Affleck's arriving two months later. In the case of Keaton, however, it's expected to be the first of several future appearances, while Affleck's will be his last after playing the Dark Knight in Batman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeSuicide Squad and Justice League.

Keaton first played Bruce Wayne in 1989's Batman and he reprised the role for 1992's Batman Returns. "Frankly, in the back of my head, I always thought, 'I bet I could go back and nail that motherfucker,'" Keaton recently said about playing Batman again.  "And so I thought, 'Well, now that they’re asking me, let me see if I can pull that off.' What’s really interesting is how much more I got [Batman] when I went back and did him. I get this on a whole other level now. I totally respect it. I respect what people are trying to make. I never looked at it like, 'Oh, this is just a silly thing.' It was not a silly thing when I did Batman. But it has become a giant thing, culturally. It’s iconic. So I have even more respect for it because what do I know? This is a big deal in the world to people. You’ve got to honor that and be respectful of that. Even I go, 'Jesus, this is huge.'"

The Flash races into theaters Nov. 4, 2022.
