According to The Flash actor-director Danielle Panabaker, the Season 9 episode featuring Stephen Amell's return as Green Arrow includes a fight scene that not only calls back to those done on Arrow, but one of The Flash's biggest ever.

Speaking about the episode "It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To," Panabaker told TVLine, "We did a fight sequence that, again, was my homage to the incredible fight sequences that they did on Arrow all those years." The actor directed the episode, and added, "My understanding is that one of the stunts we did was one of the biggest stunts that has even been done on Flash. It’s a packed-full episode, absolutely."

The Flash star Grant Gustin, who portrays the show's titular hero Barry Allen, said of the scene filmed, "[Danielle] had a big sequence in downtown Vancouver that took a couple of nights. Gustin shared that the sequence had "insane wire work and blew up some cars, a lot of background [actors], a lot of superheroes."

Stephen Amell, Other Arrowverse Stars Return to The Flash

First premiered back in 2012, Arrow is The CW series that launched the Arrowverse involving several spinoffs, like The Flash. Amell portrayed the vigilante Green Arrow/Oliver Queen across Arrow's eight seasons and in other series, but Amell's character finally met his ultimate demise in the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover event aired between late 2019 and early 2020. Despite Oliver's death, Amell's Green Arrow return in The Flash Season 9 was announced in Jan. 2023, and will take place in the aforementioned episode being aired on April 26.

Arrow and The Flash have both had their share of major fight sequences across their television runs, including bouts with super soldiers, trained assassins, evil speedsters, alternate universe armies and more. Whatever the fight sequences and massive stunts planned for "It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To," the episode is set to pit Gustin's Flash once again against the villain Bloodwork/Dr. Ramsey Rosso (Sendhil Ramamurthy) on the hero's birthday. Green Arrow is not the only ally joining Flash for this fight, being that actors David Ramsey and Keiynan Lonsdale are also reprising their Arrowverse roles as Spartan/John Diggle and Kid Flash/Wally West, respectively, for the episode.

The Flash’s Past Evil Speedsters Are Back Too

In Feb. 2023, The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace said that Amell's Green Arrow appearance in Season 9 won't alter the events of Arrow, and promised, "There won't be a dry eye in the house at the end of that episode." The Flash Season 9 is set to run for only 13 episodes total, and based on set photos, more familiar faces are on the way for the finale. This includes the evil speedsters Reverse-Flash, Savitar and Godspeed, while also bringing back Eddie Thawne actor Rick Cosnett as the show's adaptation of Cobalt Blue, another Flash villain from DC Comics.

Directed by Panabaker, The Flash Season 9, Episode 9, "It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To," airs on The CW on Wednesday, April 26.
