Stephen Amell is back as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in the first trailer for The Flash Season 9, Episode 9, "It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To."

TVLine debuted the first footage from the highly-anticipated episode, which shows an emotional reunion between Amell's Emerald Archer and Grant Gustin's Scarlet Speedster. While details on how Amell returns as Oliver Queen remain under wraps at this time, the trailer suggests that the villainous Bloodwork may be behind the resurrection. Also returning for "It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To" are fan-favorite Arrowverse characters John Diggle (David Ramsey) and Wally West/Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale), with the latter reportedly having a huge role in the upcoming Season 9 episode.

Amell's return was first announced in January 2023, with the upcoming ninth episode marking his first appearance on The Flash since the Season 6 episode "Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Three," which aired in December 2019 on The CW. "As soon as our final season was announced, we knew we wanted Stephen to come back and reprise his iconic role as Oliver Queen," said The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace. "After all, it was Oliver who originally launched Barry Allen on his heroic path. That’s why everyone on Team Flash felt so strongly that it was important to create a full-circle moment with Oliver’s return in the final season of The Flash."

One Last Hurrah for the Arrowverse

At its peak, the Arrowverse had six shows airing during the 2019-20 television season. However, as of the 2022-23 season, that number shrunk down to just The Flash, with the superhero drama's upcoming series finale also serving as the end of the Arrowverse. To celebrate and honor the beloved shared universe, Gustin explained how the writers brought back as many Arrowverse characters as they could. "We wanted to make as many people that had been a part of the Arrowverse be a part of our last season because really, it was the Arrowverse wrapping up. So it didn't really just feel like The Flash wrapping up," he said. "It did feel like the whole thing was wrapping up."

The Flash's Evil Speedsters Return for Series Finale

The Flash has also brought back several former cast members for its final season, including Tom Cavanagh and Matt Letscher as their respective versions of Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash. The villainous speedster will be one of many familiar faces to appear in the upcoming series finale, with set photos revealing the return of several speedster villains, such as Godspeed, Savitar and Zoom. Former cast member Rick Cosnett will also be playing a new villain, Cobalt Blue, in the finale.

Directed by The Flash cast member Danielle Panabaker, Episode 9, "It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To," airs on The CW on Wednesday, April 26.
