Despite previous reports, the cast members of the canceled CW show DC's Legends of Tomorrow are not actually confirmed to appear in the ninth and final season of The Flash.
Online publication The Nerds of Color recently published an interview with The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace, in which he was quoted as saying, "All the Legends [of Tomorrow] at least are all going to appear in an episode [of The Flash Season 9]." However, The Nerds of Color has since removed this quote from its article, stating that it was incorrectly attributed to Wallace. In its correction statement, the publication clarified, "There is no confirmation of all the Legends returning in The Flash."
Interestingly, elsewhere in the interview, Wallace stated that he did indeed ask The CW for the opportunity to wrap up Legends of Tomorrow's story within The Flash following the former's cancellation, to no avail. "There was originally -- when I had hoped that we'd [have] 20 episodes -- but my original concept was to have at least one [episode] -- if not a two-parter -- that wrapped up Legends of Tomorrow," he said. "And you know, there [would] be a little crossover. We get them back, we get them out of time jail, all these good things, Booster Gold, etc, etc. When we found out we only have 13 episodes, that was no longer possible."
The showrunner explained, "We barely have enough time to wrap up things with Barry and Iris' upcoming family let alone who is Danielle Panabaker playing now, so there wasn't enough time. So unfortunately, we're not going to be able to wrap up the Legends storyline which I know is very disappointing to the fans. It's disappointing to me. But we just don't have the bandwidth." That said, a number of other major Arrowverse returns are confirmed to be in place for The Flash's final season, such as Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West/Kid Flash and Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow.
The Flash's Final Season Does Have More Surprises in Store
What's more, in a separate interview with ComicBook.com, Wallace confirmed that The Flash's final episode would feature another returning star, whose identity has not yet been disclosed. "I will say, in the series finale, the person who comes back, and it's not just the actor and the performer themselves, it's why they have come back," Wallace said. "It's the most exciting thing in the world for me, because it impacts Barry's story about dealing with the past in such a big, big way. So, that's a spoiler there."
The Flash Season 9 premieres tonight, Feb. 8, on The CW.
