When The Flash returns for Season 4, one of the season's big mysteries will concern Team Flash's latest recruit: Ralph Dibny, aka Elongated Man. Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed that Ralph will keep the source of his powers secret.

“That’s one of the big mysteries of the season,” Kreisberg teased, referring to the way Ralph acquired his ability to stretch his body. As such, it seems the particle accelerator explosion -- which gave Flash, Vibe, Killer Frost and Central City's other metahumans their abilities -- may not be involved in Elongated Man's origin.

Ralph will also butt heads the Flash himself. “There’s going to be a lot of conflict between them in terms of how to be a good guy,” Kreisberg explained. “Ralph is hitting on everybody all the time. He’s brash and loud and doesn’t listen.”

Hartley Sawyer will appear as Ralph in a recurring role over the course of Season 4. The Flash's version of Elongated Man is described as "a fast-talking private investigator with investigative skills that rival those of Batman. Upon discovering he has the power to stretch his body to any shape or form, Dibny uses his new abilities to help Team Flash solve one of Central City’s greatest mysteries.”

Elongated Man was created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino and was first seen in 1960’s The Flash #112, though he’s appeared in various sectors of the DC Universe, including as a member of multiple incarnations of the Justice League. Reports of the character’s potential inclusion on The Flash season 4 first surfaced earlier this month.

Starring Grant Gustin as the Scarlet Speedster, The Flash returns Tuesday, October 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. The series also stars Jesse L. Martin, Tom Cavanagh, Carlos Valdes, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Keiynan Lonsdale and more.
