Fans got a good first look at one of the costumes that will feature in Warner Bros.' upcoming The Flash, and a fairly major one at that. The costume belongs to none other than Supergirl, who will make her DC Extended Universe debut in the upcoming film.

The costume, which was shown off at this year's Licensing Expo, is markedly distinct from many other variants that have appeared on television or in film, possessing a longer cape and sleeves that wrap around the wearer's thumb. Supergirl will be played by Sasha Calle, who recently expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity to play the first Latina iteration of the superhero. "Representation in the entertainment industry really matters, and I'm super honored, honestly [to be the first Latina Supergirl]... There was a moment when we were shooting, when Andy was like, 'Hey, come over here and watch this scene on the playback monitor.' And I go over and I see her [Supergirl], and she's in her full glory. And suddenly, I got really emotional. Because I'm looking at that, and I'm like, 'Wow, I wish I would have had this when I was little.' It meant a lot to me."

But The Flash is not the only announced DCEU project featuring Supergirl. It was previously reported Calle will return as the Kryptonian in her very own series on HBO Max, potentially alongside Michael Keaton's iteration of Batman. One superhero that won't be appearing, according to reports, is Superman, whose status in the DCEU is currently unknown.

Until now, the only depiction of Supergirl in popular media has been that of Melissa Benoist who has starred as Kara Zor-El in Supergirl since 2015. The series aired first on CBS before switching to The CW. Prior to this, the character played a major role in Smallville between 2007 and 2008. There she was portrayed by actor Laura Vandervoort.

Beyond television shows, Supergirl did get a solo film back in 1984, in which she was played by Helen Slater. Unfortunately, the film failed to find success at the box office or among critics. On top of recieving scathing reviews calling the movie cheesy and uninteresting, the film grossed just $9 million against a budget of $35 million.

The Flash zooms into theaters June 23, 2023.
