"Candyman" and "Melrose Place" actress Vanessa Williams has been cast as Iris West's mother on "The Flash."

According to Variety, it's unknown when during the second season of the hit CW drama she will debut. Note that his Williams isn't the former Miss America turned singer and actress, known for her roles on "Ugly Betty" and "Desperate Housewives."

The whereabouts of Iris' (Candice Patton) mother, and Joe West's (Jesse L. Martin) wife, were never addressed in the first season of "The Flash"; her name was never even mentioned. However, it was implied she passed away while Iris was still a child.

However, the series is poised to reveal more about the West family in the upcoming season, with the introduction of Keiynan Lonsdale ("Divergent") as Iris' cousin Wally West.

Williams joins "Candyman" co-star Tony Todd, who was cast last month as the voice of "The Flash" villain Zoom.

Starring Grant Gustin, "The Flash" returns Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
