Appropriately, new casting news for The CW's "The Flash" is coming fast and furious.

On the heels of a report earlier today that put Victor Garber in the role of Firestorm identity Dr. Martin Stein, The Hollywood Reporter now has word that "Smash" actor Andy Mientus will appear on the show as Pied Piper for a two-episode run.

Created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino in the Silver Age, the musical-themed villain holds a significant place in the Flash mythology. In the 1990s under the direction of writers Bill Messner-Loebs and later Mark Waid, the character came out as gay and turned over a new leaf as an ally of the scarlet speedster. Since then, Piper has gone back and forth in terms of his association with the law, but the character's place as an early out character in mainstream superhero comics remains important.

On TV, Pied Piper will be a former STAR Labs tech who gains mysterious sonic powers as he loses his hearing. On a quest for revenge against STAR head Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh), it's only a matter of time before the future Rogue crosses paths with the Flash.
