Former Superman actor Brandon Routh talked about whether a reprisal of his role from Superman Returns and Crisis on Infinite Earths is in the realm of possibility for the upcoming The Flash film.

"I mean, that's always a possibility," said Routh in an interview with The Geek House Show. "And of course since they're bringing back Michael Keaton, which I'm excited about, and some other people from past DC projects, I think it's very exciting."

He went on to say, "It worked very well with Crisis on Infinite Earths, and I was extremely proud and honored to be a part of it and to reprise Superman, so it's absolutely a possibility. I mean, you can do anything with Superman. You know everybody lives and dies all the time [in the comics]."

Routh's Superman debuted in 2006 with Superman Returns, which shared continuity with the first two Christopher Reeve films. The film was intended to reignite the Superman film series, but despite positive reviews from critics, Warner Bros. cancelled the sequel and opted to produce a reboot instead with Man of Steel. Routh stated that the reason the sequel didn't pan out was both that the "passion and interest in Superman had dissipated" and that the movie didn't "bring back enough monetary success."

More recently, Routh reprised his role as Superman in the Arrowverse crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths, which featured various iterations of different characters from DC projects. This take on Superman borrowed heavily from the Kingdom Come miniseries, with Clark Kent having lost many of his friends and family in a terrorist attack on the Daily Planet. Prior to donning the cape again, Routh starred as Ray Palmer/The Atom on DC's Legends of Tomorrow alongside wife Courtney Ford.

As for the possibility of him appearing in The Flash film, the actor indicated that although no official plans have been made, an appearance from his Superman could be on the table. Given that heavy-hitters such as Michael Keaton are potentially returning, the Flashpoint-inspired film is shaping up to feature a multiverse of surprises for fans.

Directed by Andy Muschietti with a script by Christina Hodson, The Flash stars Ezra Miller. The film arrives in theaters June 3, 2022.
