The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace teased the upcoming conclusion of The CW's long-running Arrowverse series, promising fans that Barry and Iris will get their happy ending.

Speaking with TVLine, Wallace opened up about their plans for the upcoming ninth and final season of The Flash. He revealed that they want to honor the show's legacy by delivering a satisfying and positive ending that The Flash's loyal viewers would be able to fondly look back on. "My mission statement is to reward the audience with things that I know they have been asking for and looking forward to; scratching off things on my own bucket list, as a fan — the same thing with the writers’ bucket list; and ending on a really positive, high note," Wallace explained.

"I wanted us to be strong, emotionally, as much as we could, and then finally, deliver just a few surprises, a few old faces returning here and there," the showrunner continued. "Upping the romance between Barry and Iris, then adding all of those other good things, creates a series finale where people will truly go, 'Hey, that was a good one. That one’s going to stay with me in a positive way and really honor the legacy of the show.'"

As part of their plan to end The Flash on a high note, Wallace also confirmed that Season 9 will address unresolved problems from previous storylines. "You’re going to see a lot of nods to Season 1, and a lot of things that were never resolved now get resolved," he said. "It’s all about bookending the series and finishing on a really high, emotional note."

The Flash Season 9 Traps Barry & Iris in Another Time-Loop

The Flash Season 9 will see Grant Gustin reprise his role as the Scarlet Speedster one last time, nearly a decade after he made his debut as Barry Allen on Arrow. He will star in the final season alongside Candice Patton as Iris West-Allen. In the same interview, Wallace revealed that Season 9 will include another time-loop episode centered around Barry and Iris. Overall, the final season of The Flash will see the two characters together more than in any previous chapter.

"We’ve had them on their own separate journeys for [Seasons] 6, 7, and 8, because we had to build their characters," Wallace said. "We had to level up Flash as a superhero, and we had to level up Iris emotionally as a journalist…But now that we’ve done that, let’s level them up as a couple. And that means it’s time for some rom-com."

The Flash also stars Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow and Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton. The final season will include guest star appearances from Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen/ Green Arrow and Batwoman's Javicia Leslie as the Red Death, among others.

The Flash Season 9 premieres on The CW on Feb. 8.
