The Flash trailer has seemingly confirmed that Ben Affleck's Batman will wear the classic blue and grey costume in the upcoming DC Studios film.

At around the two-minute and 15-second mark, Affleck's Caped Crusader, wearing the blue and grey Batsuit, can be seen grappling and sliding down a street. Based on the footage, The Flash looks to have modernized the costume, which debuted in DC Comics in the 1940s and was the primary Batsuit for most Batman stories until the 1990s. Affleck would mark the second actor after Adam West to sport the classic costume in live-action. Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale and Robert Pattinson's respective Dark Knights wore either an all-black Batsuit or a black and grey costume.

Directed by Andy Muschietti, The Flash will find Ezra Miller's titular speedster traveling back in time to prevent his mother's murder. However, after altering the timeline, The Flash finds himself trapped in an alternate reality without metahumans. To set things right, he teams up with an older Batman (Michael Keaton) as well as the Kryptonian castaway Supergirl (Sasha Calle) to save the new timeline from the forces of General Zod (Michael Shannon) and return to his universe.

Affleck's Time in the DCU May Not Be Over

Affleck first portrayed Batman in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and reprised the role in David Ayer's Suicide Squad (2016) and both the theatrical and director's cuts of Justice League (2017 and 2021, respectively). Although The Flash will mark the final appearance of Affleck's Batman, colloquially referred to as Batfleck, DC Studios co-chair and co-CEO James Gunn has hinted that Affleck is keen on directing a future DC project. "[We're] working with Ben Affleck, who has been a part of our team trying to bring things together and he really wants to direct one of our projects," Gunn said while unveiling the DCU Chapter 1 slate. "We're excited for him to do that."
