Comments from The Flash director Andy Muschietti further suggest the upcoming DC Extended Universe film will -- at least to some extent -- adapt the status quo-altering DC Comics tale Flashpoint."It is a story of time travel: Flash travels back to try to save his mother," Muschietti said in an interview with Orden 67 (translated from Spanish). "It is a spectacular action movie but it has a big heart."RELATED: The Flash: Michael Keaton's Batman Will Be Bruce, Not Thomas Wayne

Of course, this sounds eerily similar to the plot of Flashpoint. The 2011 DC Comics limited series by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert -- which set the New 52 relaunch into motion -- follows Barry Allen/Flash as he travels back in time to save his mother, Nora Allen. Nora had been murdered (by Eobard Thawne/Professor Zoom/Reverse-Flash) when Barry was only a child, with his father, Dr. Henry Allen, being framed for the crime. In trying to undo this sequence of events, Barry inadvertently creates a new reality -- one on the brink of total destruction.

Muschietti previously hinted at his Flash film taking elements from the comic, though said it features a "different version of Flashpoint than you're expecting." Barry Allen's first solo DCEU outing was previously slated to actually be titled Flashpoint, though that was before Muschietti screenwriter and Christina Hodson boarded the project.
