“The Flash” has found its Abra Kadabra. According to DCComics.com, “Ant-Man” star David Dastmalchian will don the cape in an as-yet-unannounced episode this season.
In his official character description, Abra Kadabra is called “a criminal from a distant future whose advanced technological powers seem like magic.” As such, “the time-traveling Abra Kadabra holds a secret the Flash will stop at nothing to uncover.”

Abra Kadabra made his DC Comics debut in 1962’s “The Flash” #128. In the comics, Citizen Abra hails from the 64th century, where technology has become so efficient that it has long since phased out magic. Nevertheless, Abra dreams of being a stage magician, and so travels back to the 20th century in order to wow the “primitive” people of the time with technology disguised as magic. In his attempt to become famous, he clashes with the Flash, and the two become archenemies. Though magic does of course exist in the DC Universe, Abra has no magical powers to speak of.
Dastmalchian was spotted on set just last week, though his character hadn’t yet been announced. Images of the actor surfaced during an outdoor stunt sequence with the superheroes Flash, Gypsy, Vibe, and Kid Flash. Dastmalchian teased the role with an Instagram photo where he can be seen reading “The Flash: Rebirth” #15, part of a two-issue story subtitled “Rogues Reloaded.” The story featured an elaborate jewel heist in Corto Maltese by the Weather Wizard, Captain Cold, Mirror Master, Heat Wave, Golden Glider, and the Trickster. The heist in Corto Maltese turns out to be a distraction so the Rogues can actually steal items from Central City.
Dastmalchian’s most recent turn in the DC TV universe was on Fox’s “Gotham” as the morgue night manager Dwight Pollard. Dastmalchian is also no stranger to the Marvel universe, as he starred alongside Paul Rudd and Michael Pena in “Ant-Man.” Dastmalchian can next be seen in “The Belko Experiment,” the newest film from “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn. His past credits also include “The Dark Knight,” “Prisoners,” “Animals” and “Almost Human.”
Starring Grant Gustin as the Scarlet Speedster, “The Flash” airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. on The CW. The series also stars Jesse L. Martin, Tom Cavanagh, Carlos Valdes, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Keiynan Lonsdale and more.
