The Expanse is filled with intriguing characters who are easy to like. Holden is a natural leader and paragon of morality, Miller is a veteran detective with a heart of gold and Alex is a funny and charming pilot who is a refreshing contrast to his more serious crewmates. Then there's Amos, a rugged figure who has made more than a few harsh decisions. Initially, he even seemed like a potential antagonist who could become a danger to the crew. But eventually, he surpassed his crewmates and grew into one of the most lovable characters on the series.

When he was introduced, Amos came across as an untrustworthy brute who was loyal only to Naomi. Given the initial uncertainty about her ties to the OPA and the general discord that brewed between the characters during the first season, he was a wildcard who was difficult to predict. But as the bonds between the crew grew closer, Amos' loyalty expanded from Naomi to the rest of his friends. This was especially cemented by his approval of Naomi and Holden's romance, where Amos demonstrated he had the entire crew's best interests in mind.

However, it wasn't until Season 3 that Amos truly transitioned from likable crewmate to fan favorite. The season offered a deep exploration of Amos' character, especially his approach to relationships as he interacted with Prax. Initially, Amos was as rough as ever with the botanist, but he came to sympathize with Prax's desire to get his daughter back and recognized he was a genuinely good person. This would mark the first time Amos truly opened up to a non-crew member, eventually coming to recognize the man as his best friend.

During the climax of the season, Prax was unable to kill the man who kidnapped his daughter. So in order to to prevent Prax from having to go against his own nature, Amos rose to the occasion, and in one of his greatest character moments to date, dealt with Strickland mercilessly. This presented him in a light viewers had never seen him before. Rather than a sociopath with no regard for those he didn't care for, he showed he was willing to sacrifice his own humanity out of an obligation to do what was needed.

In the most recent season, Amos even had a love interest, Chandra Wei. While it was far from the longest or deepest character arc, it showed yet another side of the character.

While he's far from the friendliest member of the crew, and he can still be a threat when tensions are too high, Amos is a welcome character on The Expanse. He's cemented himself as a flawed hero who walks a moral gray line far more than any of the other main characters, which makes him one of the most interesting individuals on the show. When Season 5 premieres later this year, his story is sure to be a highlight.

An adaption of the novel series of the same name by James S.A. Corey, The Expanse stars Steven Strait, Cas Anvar, Dominique Tipper, Wes Chatham, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Frankie Adams. Season 5 premieres Dec. 16 on Amazon Prime.
