The crossover between four of The CW's DC Comics-based shows is now unfolding, but no matter the outcome, it's been confirmed that the alien race at the center of the story will return -- later this season on "Supergirl," though it's not yet known when or under what context.

"This is not the last you've seen of The Dominators," Andrew Kreisberg, an executive producer on "Supergirl," "The Flash," "Arrow" and "DC"s Legends of Tomorrow, told a group of press including CBR during a Q&A Monday at The CW's Burbank headquarters. "The Dominators will return on 'Supergirl' later this season."

In the DC Comics source material, The Dominators were originally part of Legion of Super-Heroes lore, having first appeared in 1967's "Adventure Comics" #361 by Jim Shooter and Jim Mooney. The characters are best known for the 1988-1989 "Invasion!" event, which serves as the named inspiration for this week's crossover. That story, with a main series by Keith Giffen, Bill Mantlo, Todd McFarlane and Bart Sears, saw The Dominators lead an alliance of multiple alien races invading Earth.

In late September, The Dominators were revealed as the villains of the four-show crossover, with "Arrow" and "Legends of Tomorrow" executive producer Marc Guggenheim emphasizing at the time that the TV show aliens will be faithful to the comic book inspiration. "We're using cutting-edge prosthetics and computer effects to achieve a feature film-quality look which is faithful to 'Invasion!' artist Todd McFarlane’s interpretation of the characters," Guggenheim said in a press release.

Following a lead-in on tonight's "Supergirl," the "Invasion!" crossover continues in Tuesday's episode of "The Flash" and Wednesday's "Arrow," before concluding Thursday on "DC's Legends of Tomorrow." All four shows air on The CW at 8 p.m. on their respective days.
