The following contains spoilers for The Devil is a Part-Timer! Season 2, Episode 10, "The Devil Adamantly Insists on Buying a TV," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

Having learned of the existence of her possible mother from Emerada, Emi is completely shaken by the news to the point where she spaces out at her friend Suzuno's apartment. Despite wanting to comfort her friend in her time of need, Suzuno is promptly interrupted by an argument Maou is having with his roommates about getting a TV installed. The noise from the apartment next door upsets Emi, as she has Alas Ramus with her and the commotion has woken up the sleeping toddler.

After being asked by Ashiya why it's so important for him to get a TV, Maou reveals that Emi has one in her apartment and that he too would like to watch TV with his daughter. Ashiya still won't budge and tries to talk Maou out of it by lying to him about needing to consult with their real estate agent about the reception fee. He "reasons" that if the fee piles onto their already existing expenses, that's the end of the conversation. Unfortunately for Ashiya, Emi reveals that the reception fee is included in the rent.

Without any more clever lies to give, Ashiya accepts defeat and tells Maou that the TV they buy cannot exceed ¥20,000, and suggests that the three of them pitch in. Maou, however, reveals he has more than enough points from his refrigerator and washing machine purchases to cover the full expense if they buy the TV at the same store. In another part of Tokyo, Gabriel had adapted to life on Earth and meets a working man at a vending machine. After a brief chat with the man, Gabriel reveals that despite his optimistic appearance, he is actually unhappy.

Later in the evening, Suzuno and Chiho escort Emi and Alas Ramus back to their apartment, with Suzuno telling her she needs to pick up an item she left behind. She also reveals she wants to have a look at Emi's TV so that she can buy one herself on the same day Maou and his roommates plan to purchase theirs. After Emi expresses concern over the fact Maou is still unemployed, Chiho once again expresses her desire for her and Maou to get along. Emi asserts that won't be possible due to them being on the different sides of justice. Chiho then points out that her stubbornness makes her similar to Maou -- a comparison Emi does not respond well to.

On the train ride back home, Emi thinks about what Chiho said and Suzuno tells her they may need to change their goals now that the demons in Satan's realm are aware he's alive. Since this could prompt the demons to abduct Maou and bring him back to Ente Isla, they may need to protect him, regardless of how they personally feel about him. At the end of the day, Maou is still the king of the demon realm -- a fact that was made very clear during their time in Choshi. If Maou has to make a choice, he'll ultimately choose his compatriots and citizens, which would keep him from returning to Japan.

Emi then asks Suzuno if she plans to accompany Moau and his friends on their TV purchase to keep an eye on them. Suzuno confirms she'll keep watch, but asserts that the true purpose of her trip is to buy herself a TV. She then mentions she enjoys the comfort of living in Japan since she's able to enjoy an easy life with friends and confidants in a rich culture. She also admits they may not be able to enjoy these comforts for long and may have to protect Maou from the worst-case scenario. Emi admits to not enjoying monitoring Maou and his friends.

Upon returning to Emi's apartment, she receives a phone call from her coworker Rika to find out what types of clothes Ashiya likes. This catches Emi completely off guard, but after remembering Ashiya's obsession with budgeting, she tells Rika that he likes cheap clothes, ruling out brand clothing. Rika then clarifies she's not talking about his personal fashion tastes, but rather what types of clothes he likes to see a woman wear. Emi starts to get suspicious and asks Rika if there's anything going on between her and Ashiya. Rika admits there's nothing between them, but reveals he invited her to go shopping with him. Emi is left at a loss for words.

When Ashiya reveals his reason for inviting Rika to go shopping with them the next morning, he explains to Maou they could benefit from the objective advice of a Japanese native. Maou asserts he didn't decide to buy a TV on a whim and that he had considered buying one in the past. To drive his point home, he shares a story from this job about a child who ordered a kid's meal, and asked for a toy of a specific character. Maou had no idea what he was talking about and further justifies his decision to buy a TV by asserting it'll help him serve his customers better. Suzuno then suggests they start heading to the store.

At Emi's job, she's far from having a stellar workday, which gets the attention of her coworker, Maki. Having remembered that Rika had been acting strange the previous day, Maki asks Emi if the two had a fight. Emi confirms they're on good terms, but then Maki asks if Rika has a boyfriend. This innocent question unwittingly upsets Emi, as she loathes the idea of Rika getting together with one of Satan's generals. After having a few outbursts, Emi realizes Suzuno will be accompanying Maou and Ashiya, and can ask her to protect her coworker. This causes her to have another outburst, which gets the attention of her supervisor, who asks her to leave for the day.

While Maou and Ashiya are out shopping, Gabriel uses the opportunity to talk to Urushihara alone. More specifically, he wants to know why Urushihara aka Lucifer decided to fall to the demon realm. To Gabriel's surprise, Urushihara admits he was bored with his life in Heaven and decided to join Satan's plan. He also confesses he enjoys surfing the internet. Gabriel then reveals another reason for his visit: he wants to know more about the legendary Demon King Satan's treasures, aka the shards of Yesod. All that Urushirara reveals is that Emi acquired a new shard and gives Gabriel a list of all the treasures he knows. Before Gabriel leaves, he informs Urushihara that the Watcher is in Japan, which alarms the latter.

Later in her day, Emi thinks about the shards of Yesod she has in her possession. She speculates the shards are attracted to one another and remembers the woman she encountered earlier at the theme park she went to with Maou and Alas Ramus. Emi considers the possibility she maybe Lailah, her long-lost mother Emerada told her about, and recalls their earlier phone conversation. More specifically, she recalls Emerada's revelation about the Efzahan empire declaring war on all countries to conquer the central continent with the help of demons.

When asked if she should return home, Emerada tells Emi not to interfere, which brings her back to the subject of Lailah. The reason Emerada thinks she's Emi's mother is because she stayed with her at one point and left her a note saying she was happy to "meet a friend of [her] daughter's." Emerada put two-and-two together, and assumed she meant Emi. Deciding to find more shards of Yesod, Emi successfully uses her celestial force to determine the location of the nearest shard. Unbeknownst to both Emi and Maou, a mysterious force has seemingly knocked Chiho unconscious at her family home.
