Hina Sato went by the name of "Odin Sato" one summer, appearing in Yota Narukami's life without warning, bearing a warning of apocalypse. But she was speaking for herself: she was born with a terribly degenerative condition, and she had only 30 days left before the computer chip that sustained her would be removed from her brain. In the final episode of The Day I Became a God, Hina sees no future for herself at all, but Yota isn't giving up hope so easily.
Hina helped him forge a stronger friendship with his dear friend Kyoko Izanami, and together, Hina and Yota had all kinds of adventures during that brief summer together. Now, with the help of computer whiz Hiroto Suzuki, Yota is on a quest to bring Hina back to the only family she's ever known. But some obstacles remain.
Hina's Memories Of Family
Yota Narukami has a challenge before him: to reach out to Hina at the hospital and bring back her memories, reviving the Hina Sato he knew over the Summer. He tried using drawings of his friends and family to coax out Hina's memories, not to mention some video game time. If Yota can save Hina from the confines of a reefer truck during a festival, he can help her again now, and repay her for all she's done for him. Yota was making slow but steady progress by the time Hina's therapist realized the truth about Yota, and she wants him out of the picture. Yota pleads for one more day, and Hina's therapist relents for now. Yota meets Hina again and uses the drawings again to bring out her memories, and she recalls everyone's names, and once again, she has a poor reaction to Yota's own drawing. Having had enough, the therapist brings over two security guards to escort Yota away.
However, something changed at the last minute in Hina's mind. She and the therapist watched Yota being escorted away across the front grounds, and suddenly, Hina tried out Yota's name as "Yoha." Amazed, Yota stops and turns around, and Hina cries out that she loves him (as a friend), and she doesn't want to say good-bye. Hina's memories have returned, and the therapist is astonished. There's no longer a need to take her to an overseas facility; Hina is standing and talking on her own, and her love of her adopted family gave her strength no one realized she had. Hina has turned over a new leaf.
For Hina & Yota, Love Conquers All
Yota brings Hina back to his household, and his parents and little sister Sora are delighted to have her back. To the whole gang, Hina is like a princess, and Yota's friends Ashura, Kako Tengan, Kyoko and the rest are relieved to have Hina back. In fact, Hina is in shape to finish acting in Sora's student film, and she's given her old blue and white robes back. Once filming and post-production are finished, the whole group watches Sora's movie, which reflects the recent events in Hina's and Yota's life.
This short movie is about a magical girl Ann, whose unique powers can prevent the collapse of the entire world. However, Ann is reluctant to part with her lover (played by Yota), and at the last moment, she forsakes her self-sacrificing duty so she can run off with her paramour, and even if the apocalypse comes, nothing can come between them. In real life, Hina faced and overcame her own apocalypse, and her love of her new family gave her the strength to prevail.
Now, Hina is having a wonderful time recreating her summer, from a basketball session to student films to ramen and more, fulfilling all of her whimsical wishes. Months pass, and Yota and the others are about to graduate high school, and they're feeling optimistic about what comes next. Yota can face that future with Hina by his side.
