Last week, word got out that Warner Bros. would include a six-minute prologue for The Dark Knight Rises before Paramount's Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, but only the IMAX version. This seemed unlikely because it would require the two studios working together and limit the number of eyes seeing the footage.
However, a post on the AMC Theatres Movie Blog, which was later removed, has now confirmed the footage. We snagged some of the text from the post before it was pulled:
"AMC Theatres can confirm that this footage will be shown in front of Ghost Protocol on December 16th. (Ghost Protocol will release in IMAX five days before its general release on the 21st of December.) However ... The six minute Dark Knight Rises prologue footage will only be shown on the higher resolution 70mm IMAX screens. Not the digital IMAX screens."
We're guessing this is not only an attempt to cross-promote two of the bigger IMAX releases in the coming months, but also a way for Christopher Nolan and company to show off just how good all of those legit IMAX scenes they shot are in an attempt to get people to see the movie in that format. It's not only how he envisioned and shot the flick, but will also bring in more bank for both studios, making it a win-win for everyone involved.
