Newcomer Casey Cott has landed the role of Kevin Keller in "Riverdale," The CW's Archie Comics drama.

Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who wrote the pilot, made the announcement over the weekend on Twitter.

Created in 2010 by Dan Parent, Kevin Keller is Archie's first openly gay character. He's said to play a prominent role in the television pilot, which offers a "subversive" take on the world of Archie Comics.

"Yesterday was a day of firsts for me," Cott tweeted on Saturday. "First table read, first hair coloring, first chest wax."

Cott joins a cast that also includes KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, Camilia Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Cole Sprouse as Jughead, Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle, Daniel Yang as Dilton Doiley, Cody Kearsley as Moose Mason, Ashleigh Murray as Josie, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, Marisol Nichols as Mrs. Lodge, Mädchen Amick as Alice Cooper, and Luke Perry as Fred Andrews.

Greg Berlanti ("Arrow," "The Flash," Legends of Tomorrow") is producing the potential series.
