"Arrow" viewers will catch more than a fleeting glimpse of Barry Allen next season.

Elaborating on The CW's plans to develop a "Flash" television series, "Arrow" co-creator Andrew Kreisberg and DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns told reporters Tuesday the scarlet speedster's alter ego will guest star in three episodes of the network's breakout drama -- episodes 8, 9 and 20 -- with his final appearance serving as a backdoor pilot. All three episodes will be written by Kreisberg, Johns and "Arrow" co-creator Greg Berlanti.

Although injecting a character with superhuman abilities into the more realistic world of "Arrow" might seem problematic, Kreisberg revealed that when Barry Allen is introduced, he's "an ordinary man," merely a forensic scientist working for the Starling City Police Department.

"As we always do on 'Arrow,' we try to keep things as grounded and realistic as possible," Collider quotes the executive producer as saying. "That's how the audience will be introduced to Barry and get to know him, before his life gets a little bit faster."

With Episode 20, viewers will at last get to peer into the world of The Flash, who will leave his mark on Starling City.

"When [Barry Allen] first appeared back in the '50s, he ushered in the Silver Age of DC superheroes," Johns said. "In the same way, he's going to usher in some new and pretty insane concepts to the 'Arrow' world, but in a very grounded way."

"The important thing is that our characters, who people have really come to know and like, will react to the extraordinary changes to their world, hopefully in a very realistic way," Kreisberg added. "These 'powers' won't be treated as commonplace, on the show. They will be extraordinary events and the world, and our characters in it, will react accordingly."

And comics shouldn't worry, Johns assured: The character they eventually see on screen will be The Flash, familiar costume and all.

"Yes, absolutely!" he said. "There will be no sweatsuits or strange code names. He will be The Flash." After all, "The Hood" is already taken.

"Arrow" returns Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
