UPDATE 1/29/2020 9:15 pm ET: CBR has learned that the account originally mentioned in the post below is not the official Smallville Twitter account. The handle for the official Smallville Twitter is @_SmallvilleTV, which carries the Twitter Verified checkmark. It was created last month and has posted only once, on Jan. 14:

The original post remains unaltered below.

Smallville might be gone, but the show's official but long dormant Twitter account is nonetheless seeing some new activity.

The last tweet from the account was posted in 2012, a year after the series concluded on The CW. That is, until last October, when a new tweet appeared announcing stars Tom Welling and Erica Durance appearances in The CW's now-concluded "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover.

The account had since gone quiet again until late Tuesday, when nearly a dozen new tweets were posted within a 20-hour period. The tweets largely consist of short video clips and character quotes from the series.

The first tweet on the newly awakened account was a simple image of Superman's iconic shield logo -- a logo that's part of a costume ironically never donned by Welling until the series' final moments.

The reason for the sudden flurry of activity is unknown.

Smallville bid one last farewell to viewers in "Crisis" when Welling's character Clark Kent stated he had already given up his powers and retired from the role of Superman. The world of Smallville, along with the rest of the original multiverse, was destroyed by the Anti-Monitor's anti-matter wave. The Arrowverse's reborn multiverse did not give any indication Smallville was part of that rebirth.

Of course, that could also mean the Smallville reality survived, albeit without mention. But whether the wave of new tweets indicate The CW has something new in store for the series, or a simply basking in nostalgia, remains to be seen.

Smallville ran for ten seasons on The WB/The CW from 2001-2011.
