Fueled by early positive buzz, "The Flash" has raced beyond initial expectations and expanded its freshman season episode count by three. Deadline reports that both "The Flash" and "Jane the Virgin," two of the best-received pilots of the network's fall lineup, have had an additional three scripts ordered, thus beginning the process of expanding the promising new shows into the back half of the impending season.

Deadline describes the order -- which comes weeks ahead of "The Flash's" debut on October 7 -- as "unusual" and a vote of confidence from executives at the CW. The preemptive episode order implies that they not only believe in the series' pilot, but also in the quality of the episodes the show has turned in since then. This move expands the Scarlet Speedster's debut season from an initial order of 13 episodes to 16, as it races towards getting a full season order.

"The Flash" premieres October 7 on the CW.
