The Arrowverse may still be alive as the Justice U spinoff is still in active development.

According to TVLine, Arrowverse mainstay David Ramsey, who plays John Diggle, offered a brief update on the college-themed superhero show, insisting that the series is still very much a reality. "We’re on the second draft of a script, and we just closed the deal on a writer," Ramsey said. "I’m not sure I can say her name, so I won’t, but we’re very close to submitting our second draft. It’s still in development, and we’re moving forward." At the time of writing, Justice U does not yet have a solid release window but Michael Narducci (Superman & Lois) and Zoanne Clack (Grey's Anatomy) are attached to the project.

Based on the original announcement, Justice U will follow John Diggle as he recruits and trains "five young meta-humans" while they also study at an unnamed university. No other cast members have been officially revealed and The CW has yet to formally greenlight the show.

Many fans of The Arrowverse have begun to question whether DC's long-running and immensely popular franchise is still a viable prospect. Following major priority shifts at Warner Bros. Discovery due to a controversial merger, the shared universe is seemingly on its last legs as The CW canceled many of the included series in early 2022. Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman and Naomi all fell onto the chopping block. The network also confirmed that the longest-running Arrowverse series, The Flash, will conclude in 2023 with a truncated ninth season.

Despite the spate of cancellations, many fans believed that the Arrowverse would live on in the form of Superman and Lois, which features characters that have appeared in several major crossover events. Following the show's Season 2 finale, many enthusiasts were shocked to discover that Clark Kent's adventures exist in a different universe, a decision that angered many viewers. Showrunner Todd Helbing discussed the decision to remove Superman and Lois from Arrowverse continuity, explaining that the creative team didn't want to be constrained by the established lore.

"It just felt like, it was opening a can of worms and required so much explanation to, someone like, let’s say my mom, a new audience member, that it wasn’t going to play in the way that we originally intended," Helbing said. "The more we got through Season 1 and the end of Season 2, it’s just felt more honest to not have it be on the same planet."

Justice U does not yet have a release window.
