It looks like Gotham City will work a double shift on The CW.

According to The Hollywood ReporterGotham Knights has received a pilot order from the broadcast TV channel. If ordered to series, the comics drama will follow Batman's "rebellious adopted son," who "forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors known as the Gotham Knights." The series was first announced in December 2021.

Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux and Natalie Abrams will write the series. Stoteraux and Fiveash will serve as executive producers with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden, while Abrams will co-executive produce. Danny Cannon will direct and executive produce the pilot.

No casting details were announced for the project, and it is unclear who the "rebellious adopted son" is, although Batman has a host of rebellious children/sidekicks in the comics, including Jason Todd/Red Hood and Damian Wayne/Robin.

Gotham Knights would be the second CW series to take place in Gotham City after Batwoman, which is currently airing its third season. The new series is not a spinoff of Batwoman and is not related to the upcoming Gotham Knights video game from WB Games Montréal and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Along with Gotham Knights, The CW also ordered pilots for the Supernatural prequel Winchesters and Walker: Independence, a prequel to Walker, as well as six additional scripts for its Zorro series. This does not mean that Zorro has been picked up to series, but the hope is that the additional pages will convince the network to give it the green light.

The pilot orders come as WarnerMedia and ViacomCBS, who share ownership of The CW, explore the sale of the network. While nothing is set in stone, a likely outcome of the sale is that WarnerMedia and ViacomCBS will remain minority owners and continue to be the main content providers. Nexstar Media Group, which owns close to 200 networks across the United States, is the frontrunner to buy the network.
