The Crow reboot is back in action with more details set to be announced soon.

In an interview with IndieWire, The Crow producer Ed Pressman revealed that while the earlier reboot of The Crow starring Jason Momoa with Corin Hardy directing had been canceled, a new director and cast are expected to be announced soon. While discussing the film, Pressman described The Crow as "kind of anti-superhero, unique to the world of graphic novels."

It was reported in 2020 that the reboot was back in active development, though these reports had not been officially confirmed at the time. Pressman's news comes months after Momoa's original test footage from The Crow surfaced online, in which the Aquaman star was set as the undead rocker, Eric Draven.

However, Momoa and Hardy inevitably departed the project in 2018 due to financial and creative differences with production company Davis Films, which owned the film rights to the original comic books. "I've waited 8 years to play this dream role," Momoa said in a statement when he left the film. "I love you @corinhardy and @sonypictures unfortunately I may have to wait 8 more. Not our team. But I swear I will. James O'Barr sorry to let you down I won't on the next. This film needs to be set free. And to the fans. Sorry. I can't play anything but what this film deserves and it needs love. I'm ready when it's right."

Momoa's test footage offered a glimpse at what he could have looked like had the film been finished, which Hardy had teased following his departure from the project with a behind-the-scenes photo of the actor clad in Eric Draven's classic makeup.

"I knew from the off, that the idea of making a new version of The Crow was never going to be for everyone, because it is a beloved film," Hardy said at the time. "But sometimes, when you love something so much, you have to make hard decisions. And yesterday, deciding it was time to let go of this dark & emotional dream project, was the hardest decision of all. Buildings burn, people die, but real love is forever."

Created by James O'Barr, the character first appeared in Caliber Presents #1 in 1989. The Crow was first adapted to film by Alex Proyas in 1994, starring Brandon Lee as Eric Draven, who tragically died on set after an accident involving a prop gun. Originally set to hit theaters sometime in 2019, the reboot had been in development since 2009, but had been hit with numerous obstacles since the beginning, including Relativity Media filing for bankruptcy. On top of that, The Crow saw a plethora of directors, like Hardy and Javier Gutierrez, and before them Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Stephen Norrington.
