The Crow may soon rise again after all.

According to Bloody Disgusting, the planned film reboot of The Crow is back in active development. It was previously revealed Sony Pictures had been tapped to distribute The Crow Reborn from Davis Films, Highland Film Group and Electric Shadow. The film was to be directed by The Nun's Corin Hardy and star Justice League's Jason Momoa in the lead role of Eric Draven, and was slated for release on Oct. 11, 2019.

Of course, no such film ever arrived on that date. In the early summer of 2018, both Hardy and Momoa abruptly departed the project, with Sony pulling the film from its release slate and seemingly withdrawing as its worldwide distributor shortly thereafter. However, Bloody Disgusting's new information suggests Davis Films, Highland Film Group and Electric Shadow's planned reboot of The Crow is once again looking to move forward after spending about a year and a half on the shelf. The film will feature a new director and lead actor, though no hiring information is available at this time, nor has a new release window been given.

Based on James O'Barr's 1989 comic book of the same name, The Crow first hit theaters in 1994. The film -- which was a sleeper hit and the box office and has gone on to become a cult favorite -- starred the late Brandon Lee as Eric Draven, a deceased rockstar who is resurrected in order to avenge the rape and murder of his girlfriend, as well as his own murder. The film was followed up by 1996's The Crow: City of Angels, 2000's The Crow: Salvation and 2005's The Crow: Wicked Prayer. There was also the television series The Crow: Stairway to Heaven, which ran for one 22-episode season from 1998 to 1999.
