The family of the late Crow star Brandon Lee spoke out on the recent tragedy involving Alec Baldwin and two crewmembers on the set of his upcoming film Rust."Our hearts go out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and to Joel Souza and all involved in the incident on Rust," Lee's family tweeted. "No one should ever be killed by a gun on a film set. Period."

On Oct. 21, it was reported that Baldwin accidentally shot Rust director Joel Souza and director of photography Halyna Hutchins when a prop gun malfunctioned, leaving Souza hospitalized and Hutchins dead. The gun was loaded with blanks, but both Souza and Hutchins were struck by what's believed to be a live single round that was ejected from the barrel. This is eerily similar to what happened to Lee on the set of The Crow in 1993, with the actor being struck by a .44-caliber slug and dying during surgery.

Hutchins, who was 42, previously worked on such films as Archenemy, starring Joe Manganiello. "I’m in shock," Manganiello tweeted upon learning of the situation. "I was so lucky to have had Halyna Hutchins as my DP on Archenemy. An incredible talent & great person. I can’t believe this could happen in this day and age… gunfire from a prop gun could kill a crew member? What a horrible tragedy. My heart goes out to her family."

"We received the devastating news this evening, that one of our members, Halyna Hutchins, the Director of Photography on a production called Rust in New Mexico died from injuries sustained on the set," International Cinematographers Guild President John Lindley said shortly after the incident. "The details are unclear at this moment, but we are working to learn more, and we support a full investigation into this tragic event. This is a terrible loss, and we mourn the passing of a member of our Guild's family."

"The details are unclear at this moment, but we are working to learn more, and we support a full investigation into this tragic event," Lindley and executive director Rebecca Rhine declared in a separate statement.

After the tragedy, production on Rust was put on pause, with a spokesperson stating that "The safety of our cast and crew remains our top priority." An investigation is currently underway, and no charges have been filed at this time.
