The forces behind the sleeper hit "The Conjuring" have set their sights on a remake of the 1983 horror film "The Entity."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, James Wan will produce the project, which boasts a script by brothers Chad and Carey Hayes. Roy Lee ("The Ring," "Poltergeist" remake) will also produce.

An adaptation of Frank De Felitta's novel, "The Entity" centers on a single mother who's physically and sexually abused by an invisible assailant. She turns first to a skeptical psychiatrist and then to a pair of parapsychologists for help. Purportedly based on a true story, the original film starred Barbara Hershey and Ron Silver.

Wan's "The Conjuring" proved a surprise hit for New Line Cinema, grossing $318 million on a $20 million, and spawning the spinoff "Annabelle" and an announced sequel.
