The Conjuring doesn't open until Friday, but it's already scaring up a sequel.

New Line Cinema is reportedly at work on crafting a follow-up to director James Wan's new thriller about real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Set in 1971, The Conjuring brings the Warrens to Rhode Island to help a family overcome disturbing happenings in their farmhouse. Watchmen star Patrick Wilson and Bates Motel lead Vera Farmiga play the Warrens, and would likely return for the sequel, as it's set to follow their further investigations.

Wan's continued involvement is less clear. The filmmaker is next set to direct The Fast and the Furious 7, making his schedule tricky to pin down. Brothers and writing partners Carey and Chad Hayes are returning for the sequel, however. Variety reports the Hayes siblings "interviewed Lorraine Warren extensively as part of developing the script."
