WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7, streaming now on Disney+.

With the "Siege of Mandalore" arc set to close out Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the series is starting to act as the precursor to Revenge of the Sith fans have always wanted. It shows how conniving Palpatine really was in setting up Order 66, why the Jedi were spread thin and in what way Republic politics ravaged planets in the Outer Rim.

But what it's also being heralded for is the reunion between Ahsoka Tano and her former Jedi master, Anakin Skywalker. And during the reunion episode, "Old Friends Not Forgotten," some fans have pointed out a tease of the epic showdown that'd ensue years later between the former Jedi and Darth Vader.

Ahsoka left the Jedi Order disenfranchised because she didn't think it fit what she envisioned justice to be in the galaxy. Now, in the final season, after meeting the Martez sisters, Ahsoka is recruited by Bo-Katan to take Mandalore back from Maul. Needing reinforcements, Anakin and Obi-Wan are convened to a meeting with Ahsoka and Bo-Katan after a battle on Yerbana and they reunite with their former ally to figure out if the Republic can factor in.

It's an awkward meeting as Anakin tries to mend the bond with his student but Ahsoka is all about the business end of things. Still, when it's decided the Republic can't get involved, Anakin and Obi-Wan split the 501st Legion, placing it under Rex with Ahsoka as his advisor. But during the touching moment, there are a couple of noteworthy teases that harken to the future in Rebels where Ahsoka meets her former mentor.

Anakin gifts Ahsoka two lightsabers in a box after giving her the legion, and as she stretches out her arms and activates them, she poses similar to when she had to take the weapons out to face Vader. During Rebels, she'd help Ezra save Kanan at the Sith Temple in Malachor in the debacle with the Holocrons and Darth Maul. But apart from the way Ahsoka holds the weapons, there's also an even more powerful shot that foreshadows what's to come.

As Ahsoka bids Anakin goodbye, Ahsoka tells him good luck -- an inside joke because Obi-Wan always told him there's no such thing. But as Anakin heads off to Coruscant where General Grievous is going to kidnap Palpatine, he looks back before the door closes for a glance at his Padawan. But little does he know it's the last time he'll lay eyes on her as Anakin because the hunt for Palpatine will lead to him becoming Darth Vader. The way the shot is set up is similar to when Vader spots Ahsoka at the temple in Rebels, making this moment really tug at the heartstrings as fans already know the conflict to come.

Both shots make it clear that Ahsoka has grown in her time away from the Jedi, something Anakin picks up on quickly. However, the whole reunion is a bittersweet finale because all one can wonder is what would have happened if Anakin went with Ahsoka to Mandalore. It's clear that he wants to, but ultimately, his loyalty is to Obi-Wan, the council and by extension, Palpatine. Nonetheless, it's clear that Ahsoka and Anakin have reconciled and they wish they could spend more time together, learning and finishing their tutelage as they both grew in each other's presence.

Streaming on Disney+, the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars stars Matt Lanter as Anakin Skywalker, Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano, Dee Bradley Baker as Captain Rex and the clone troopers, James Arnold Taylor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan and Sam Witwer as Maul. A new episode arrives each Friday.
