Star Wars: The Clone Wars just wrapped up its seventh and final season, bringing the fan favorite entry in the Star Wars Saga to a definitive end. However, there are still a few questions that the show was unable to fully answer about the galaxy far, far away following Darth Sidious' Order 66 in Revenge of the Sith.
In an interview with Deadline, Showrunner Dave Filoni offered insight on the Jedi post-Order 66. The seasoned Lucasfilm creator revealed he had even discussed the topic with George Lucas himself in the past. According to Filoni, "The reason why we never saw too many Jedis fighting against the Empire is the fact that a lot of them felt that they failed in their goal to protect the Republic, and they were all deceived." He clarified further by stating, "So a lot of them realized that fighting a war maybe isn't the best way and created violence. They set their sabers down, they tried to find different paths to helping people than perhaps, you know, being violent, and so there is an old idea there."
The Jedi were the famed protectors of the Republic before the rise of Darth Sidious. After Chancellor Palpatine was granted emergency powers by the senate, and after he was able to sway Anakin Skywalker to the Dark side, Darth Sidious had the Jedi Order extinguished with the help of the Clone Troopers. Many Jedi perished during the extermination of the order.
Dave Filoni has also been the showrunner behind the Star Wars: Rebels and Star Wars: Resistance animated shows, and even worked on the beloved Avatar: The Last Airbender before joining up with Lucasfilm.
