WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for The Boys Season 2, Episode 8, "What I Know," available now on Amazon Prime Video.

The second season of The Boys brought in Stormfront, an abrasive but social media-savvy superhero with lightning powers whose candid persona turned out to be a clever mask. She's actually a Nazi who's more than a century old, the first successful subject of Frederick Vought's experiments with Compound V. What's more, she is Vought's former wife and the mother of his child, Chloe.

In the Season 2 finale, Stormfront is killed in a forest right after her real identity is leaked to the press. As she lies dying, her limbs charred to stumps by Homelander's son, Ryan, she begins to mumble in German: "Es war so schön. Wie wir dort zu dritt gesessen, im Schatten eines Apfelbaums. Erinnerst du dich an den Tag Frederick? Chloe hat die Arme aus dem Autofenster gestreckt. Wir haben den perfekten Platz am Fluss gefunden, im Schatten eines Apfelbaums. Es war das erste mal dass Chloe frische Äpfel gegessen hat."War so glücklich. Es war herrlich. Ich wollte dass er nie zu Ende geht."

The translation in English is as follows: "It was beautiful. How we sat there under the shadow of the apple trees. Do you remember that day, Frederick? Chloe put her arm outside of the car's window. We found a perfect spot next to the river under the shadow of the apple trees. It was the first time that Chloe had eaten (ate) a fresh apple. I was so happy, it was wonderful. I wished that it would never end."

In her dying moments, Stormfront was remembering a day out with Frederick and Chloe, both of whom died of old age, even as she remained young. Throughout the season, Stormfront expressed sadness at the loss her family and a desire to return to a past she idealized. However, there's some irony here, as Stormfront dies at the hands of another child, under a different tree, on a bed of dead leaves, thinking about the brief happiness offered by the apple trees of a bygone era for which she constantly longed to return.

Amazon Studios' The Boys stars Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as the Female, Erin Moriarty as Annie January, Chace Crawford as the Deep, Antony Starr as Homelander, Aya Cash as Stormfront and Simon Pegg as Hughie's dad. Season 2 is airing on Prime Video now.
