The Boys released a smoldering new photo of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy in the Prime Video series.
On Twitter, Prime Video shared an image of Ackles in his Soldier Boy costume. The character is standing against a tree. It's not immediately apparent just what the context for the picture is, and the streaming service did not provide a caption or ALT text for the image. Ackles and The Boys were both tagged in the post.
Based on the character of the same name appearing in Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's The Boys comics, Soldier Boy is the former leader of Payback in the Prime Video series. However, after being sold out by his teammates, the parody of Captain America ended up in Russia, where was experimented upon by scientists. Soldier Boy is currently working with Billy Butcher and Hughie Campbell to get revenge on Payback. In exchange, he's promised to help them take down Homelander, as Soldier Boy's abilities allow him to de-power other supes, making him their best chance of defeating the leader of The Seven.
Ackles is an actor best known for his role as Dean Winchester on Supernatural, the long-running The WB/The CW fantasy series. Additionally, Ackles voiced Jason Todd in several animated DC films and has appeared in such projects as Dawson's Creek, Dark Angel and Walker.
The Boys, which was created by Supernatural's Eric Kripke, premiered in 2019, with a second season following in 2020. Despite an early renewal, Season 3 didn't arrive until 2022 due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The show follows the titular group, which aims to undermine and stop Vought International, the unethical corporation behind the creation of supes. Additionally, Butcher seeks to kill Homelander to get revenge for the death of his wife, Becca Butcher, and is willing to go to any length to get it.
All three seasons of The Boys have been well-received and earned strong viewership. In June, Prime Video officially renewed the series for Season 4, citing an increase in viewership.
New episodes of The Boys Season 3 debut Fridays on Prime Video. The most recent episode of the series was "Herogasm" and the next will be "Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed," which releases on July 1.
