WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for The Boys Season 2, Episode 7, "Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker" and Episode 8, "What I Know," available now on Amazon Prime Video.

Showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed in a live Q&A on social media that Black Noir will return to The Boys in Season 3. Although fans last saw Black Noir suffering from anaphylactic shock after Maeve shoves an Almond Joy into his mouth, Kripke clarified that it wasn't fatal.

As we heard from Stormfront in the series finale, Black Noir is "unresponsive" but very much still alive and will recover in Season 3. Black Noir is portrayed in the show by actor Nathan Mitchell and since his debut has been a "fan-favorite," according to Kripke.

"Absolutely, Noir will be back," Kripke said. "And we're actually going to learn more about him in Season 3. You know, there might even be an opportunity for him to take off his mask."

Although Kripke didn't reveal how quickly Noir will recover in Season 3 of The Boys, it's certain that fans will be able to spend more time with the character's origin story.

In what was momentarily seen on-screen in Season 2, Episode 7 of The Boys, it seems as if Kripke will divert from the comic series' interpretation of who Black Noir is and where he originated. For a moment during Maeve's tree nut attack on Black Noir, we saw the mouth of Black Noir. Although that reveal doesn't seem like it'd tell much, it alluded to more for fans of the original comic series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

In the original comic, Black Noir was a Homelander clone. This reveal came at the end of the series. Readers learned that Black Noir was an insurance policy of sorts against Homelander; so, if Homelander ever does go rogue, they'd have an equally powerful force to help remove him from their business and everyone else's world.

In Kripke's adaptation, we saw Black Noir's mouth and his skin tone was much darker than Homelander. His flesh also seemed charred, as if he either been through recent injuries or perhaps lives in a kind of graft skin that can degrade but never fully die.

Although fans speculated that this meant that he isn't a Homelander clone, we won't truly know until Season 3 debuts what has happened to Black Noir, what will and where exactly he came from in Kripke's re-imagining of The Boys' world.

Amazon Studios' The Boys stars Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko, Erin Moriarty as Annie January, Chace Crawford as the Deep, Antony Starr as Homelander and Aya Cash as Stormfront. Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
