The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke says that Season 4 will not be the series' last.

On Twitter, Kripke provided fans of the Prime Video superhero drama with a production update regarding Season 4, which started filming in Aug. 2022. In early Feb. 2023, Kripke revealed the title for The Boys' Season 4 finale and that production on the episode had begun. In his latest tweet, Kripke said of the finale, "I'm here to prep & direct the Season 4 finale. No, not the series finale, there will be more!"

A fifth season of The Boys has not been officially announced as of writing, but Kripke's tweet points to the show getting an early renewal, similar to what reportedly happened with Season 4. Reports of Prime Video giving The Boys Season 4 the green light came out almost a full year prior to Season 3 releasing in June 2022, which is when Season 4 was finally confirmed. Season 4 does not have an official premiere date though, Kripke adding in his post, "Most importantly, S4 premieres... at some point in the future in our discernible reality."

The Boys Launches a College Spinoff in 2023, Gen V

However, prior to The Boys Season 4 and Season 5, the show's superhero-filled universe is expanding. Despite it not having an official release date either, The Boys' live-action, college-themed Gen V spinoff will premiere at some point in 2023. The first teaser trailer for Gen V was unveiled in Dec. 2022, featuring familiar faces like the speedster A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), plenty of blood and gore, puppets and more.

The Boys Season 4’s New Characters and Titles, Explained

The cast of The Boys has also grown for Season 4. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Rob Benedict and Elliot Knight have signed on in undisclosed roles, while Valorie Curry and Susan Heyward have joined as the supes Firecracker and Sage, respectively. Actor Simon Pegg, the inspiration for Hughie in the original The Boys comic series created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Darick Robertson, will return for Season 4, but his portrayal of Hughie's (Jack Quaid) father will be joined this time by Rosemarie DeWitt as Hughie's mother.

Plot details for The Boys Season 4 remain scarce, but fans know that the premiere will be titled "Department of Dirty Tricks" and the finale "Assasination Run." Season 3 left off with Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) declaring that The Boys must take out Congresswoman Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit), being that she is now the running mate for United States Presidential Candidate Robert "Dakota Bob" Singer (Jim Beaver) and a secret ally to Vought International, the show's nefarious superhero corporation. In the comics, Vought has plans to replace President Dakota Bob with Vice President Victor Neuman, but whether the finale's title may be referring to the attempted assassination of Singer, Neuman or someone else remains to be seen.

The Boys Season 4 does not have an official release date as of writing, while Gen V is expected to premiere sometime in 2023. The first three seasons of The Boys and Season 1 of the show's animated spinoff, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, are now streaming on Prime Video.
