Prime Video's The Boys officially announced the premiere date for Season 3.After a lengthy wait, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke finally revealed that the third season of the dark superhero satire series will premiere on Prime Video on June 3, 2022, with the series promising in another tweet that "heads will explode, and not in the figurative kinda way."
Season 3 of The Boys wrapped filming in September of last year and has already been picked up for Season 4. The long-awaited third season began filming late Jan. 2021 in Toronto following production delays due to the coronavirus (COVID-19). The official release date comes after a lengthy wait, with both Kripke and The Boys' social media periodically teasing Season 3, while also poking fun at anxious fans who repeatedly asked for updates, at one point stating that the season would not premiere until "2033."
Prior to this official release date announcement, Kripke teased a mind-blowing first episode, calling it both "insane" and "special." The Boys Twitter account responded to Kripke saying the "editing room is fully covered in gore already and they're only working on episode 1." While little is known about the plot, Kripke also previously stated that the premiere of Season 3 will be the "craziest" thing the show has accomplished thus far.
"Without giving away any spoilers, I was just in editing yesterday, and we're doing something here in the Season 3 premiere that is not only I think the craziest thing we've ever done, it's got to be up there with the craziest thing anyone's ever done," the showrunner said. "Maybe it won’t work. Who knows? But I’m just so high on this gag that we’re pulling off. And it’s certainly something nobody has ever seen before, probably for good reason. So all that’s really exciting."
On a series known for its brutal violence, the third season has been teased as the bloodiest yet. "I was talking to the head makeup artist and she's in charge of ordering the blood -- that's one of her many jobs," said Laz Alonso, who plays Mother's Milk on the series, in a previous interview. She told me that all of Season 2... When you talk about bulk, I don't think they used over a gallon of blood in Season 2, believe it or not. Season 3, we're already at three and a half gallons of blood. So that should give you a little indication of where it's going."
Season 3 of The Boys premieres on Prime Video June 3, 2022.
