The show premiered in July 2019 and saw its second season released in September 2020. A third season of The Boys was announced by Amazon Prime Video before Season 2 hit the small screen. If the past is any indication of when the next season is to be ready, The Boys could possibly return in the late summer or early fall.

The second season left off with Butcher mourning the loss of his wife Becca, Homelander feeling backed into a corner by Queen Maeve's blackmail and Jack Quaid's Hughie seemingly getting a new job with a particular Congresswoman. With many questions left unanswered, fans have been teased by cast and crew about what is to come in the loud-mouthed, blood-spattering Season 3. Homelander actor Antony Starr said his character will become a "homicidal maniac" in the upcoming season. Showrunner Eric Kripke has informed fans that Jensen Ackles will be making his debut as the universes' first hero, Soldier Boy. Kripke also revealed the title of the premiere episode to be "Payback."

Filming for the third season of The Boys began earlier this year. With the show's Twitter account poking fun at viewers clamoring for more content, it's anyone's guess when the Season 3 premiere will be announced. Jack Quaid's Hughie Campbell is nominated for Best Hero at the MTV Movie and TV Awards, which will take place after his Q&A. It is possible that more information will be revealed then.

Amazon Studios' The Boys stars Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko, Erin Moriarty as Annie January, Chace Crawford as the Deep, Antony Starr as Homelander and Aya Cash as Stormfront. Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
