The Boys has reportedly been greenlit for a fourth season.

The report was released by Instagram account voughthq, named after the series' nefarious superhero corporation. "Although not officially announced, my sources tell me that The Boys has been renewed for another season (no surprise!) and that production starts in 2022," the account wrote. The show has yet to even receive a Season 3 release date, but this report states that the cast and crew will be hard at work before the third season even releases.

The account stated that pre-production on the series' fourth season will begin in March 2022, with shooting to start within the following three months. Adding on to the report, Midgard Times wrote that filming on the third season will wrap this September, eyeing a mid-2022 release date. If this planned release date is accurate, production on the next season will have already begun by that point, allowing the fourth season to drop sooner after the previous season finale leaves fans lying in wait.

Midgard Times also wrote that the spin-off series set in the same world as The Boys will start production next month and wrap around February 2022. The series will explore the lives of young superheroes as they undergo training on a college campus established by Vought. Lizzie Broadway has already been cast in an unknown role for the series, with other casting descriptions having been released.

The twisted take on the superhero genre released its second season last Fall. The finale saw the show's protagonists and antagonists with uncertain futures and many possibilities of where to move forward. The season also earned the series 2021 Emmy and other award nominations, including Best Drama Series.

The third season promises to introduce even more insanity with new characters and plotlines pulled straight from the pages of the source material. Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles will be portraying golden-age Vought superhero Soldier Boy, a spin on Marvel's Captain America. The Walking Dead's Laurie Holden is set to play the Crimson Countess, a spin on Scarlet Witch from the popular imprint as well. In the comics, the two heroes are members of the series' version of the Avengers, "Payback."

In addition to new characters, the third season will also be adapting the comic series' "Herogasm" event. The event lasted 6 issues and saw all of Vought's heroes meeting on an island to engage in sexual activity amongst each other for a whole week. Showrunner Eric Kripke said that adapting the event has been one of "craziest" things he has ever seen from his career.

While The Boys does not currently have an official release date for Season 3, the first two seasons of the series can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video now.
