The Boys' Erin Moriarty revealed at 2021's New York Comic Con that show creator Eric Kripke made it clear to her during the audition process that she was his first choice to portray Starlight.

"I auditioned and a month went by, so I put it into the massive bag full of roles that I really wanted and I haven't gotten," the actor said during a panel attended by CBR. "And then I reached out to my reps and I'm like, 'Did you ever get any feedback?' Just hoping that maybe, and then they told me, 'Oh yeah, you're testing tomorrow.'"

Moriarty added that after she completed the 90-minute test, Kripke pulled her aside and said something that was "so nice."

"And in the world of casting, people never do this, so as an actor your mind's constantly always having such highs and lows, but the showrunner walked me out of the room and he said to me, 'You know what, just so you know, no matter what happens, I adore you and you're my creative choice whether you get it or not. Go home knowing that,'" she said. "And then here we are. Shout out to Eric Kripke for that lovely, little moment because that does not usually happen."

During the same conversation, Moriarty also recalled that she wasn't absolutely sure she wanted to audition for a character called "Starlight," explaining, "...I got sent the script, I read nothing about the logline, and I was texting one of my best friends here, and I got it and all I saw was the character name was Starlight and I remember distinctly, literally texting her and saying, 'Oh my God, I gotta read a script where I play a character named Starlight. You've got to be fucking kidding me.'"

However, when she realized that the whole premise of The Boys was to be satirical, she changed her tune and decided she could "100% get on board."

In related news, it was also revealed in a new clip from Vought News Network's Seven on 7 with Cameron Coleman that Season 3 will see Starlight donning her original costume. "Speaking of values, America's super sweetheart Starlight returned to her old costume recently, bringing wholesome American values back to the forefront of her public persona," Coleman (Matthew Edison) said in the October 2021 edition of the fictional news program. "Just in time for Halloween, Starlight's classic costume is clearly becoming this year's favorite go-to costume girls, surpassing Queen Maeve and quickly approaching Homelander-level sales numbers."

While Season 3 of The Boys does not yet have an official release date, filming wrapped up in September and fans speculate the new season will debut on Amazon Prime Video in late 2021 or early 2022.
