The Boys Season 2 has cast John Noble as Samuel Butcher, the father of Karl Urban's Billy Butcher. The occasion is something of a Lord of the Rings reunion, with Noble and Urban previously starring in Peter Jackson's film trilogy as Denethor II and Éomer, respectively.

Urban himself made the announcement in a post to Instagram, sharing a photo of himself alongside Noble. According to Urban, Noble will appear as Butcher's dad in the upcoming seventh episode of The Boys Season 2 -- "Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker" -- which is set to hit Prime Video this Friday, Oct. 2. "Loved working with John," Urban wrote. "His Sam Butcher is a brutal force of nature!"

In addition to his role as Denethor in Lord of the Rings, Noble is known for his role as Walter Bishop on the Fox sci-fi television series Fringe, which ran from 2008 to 2013. He also voiced the character of Dr. Jonathan Crane, aka Scarecrow, in the 2015 video game Batman: Arkham Knight.

Based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys follows the eponymous group of vigilantes as they attempt to fight back against superheroes who abuse their power and status, more specifically the famous team known as The Seven. The series dropped its entire first season on Amazon Prime Video in July of 2019, with the ongoing second season following a new weekly release format. The Boys has already been renewed for Season 3.
