The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke says being able to make Herogasm a reality is a sign of the series' success.

Despite the general debauchery of the superhero satire series, everything will all pale in comparison to Season 3's Herogasm. "If you were to ask the Amazon executives, they would deny it, but I feel like it was in a strange way a reward for two seasons of a successful show," Kripke said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Originally published as a spinoff of The Boys comic book series, Herogasm is a six-issue limited series by Garth Ennis, John McCrea and Keith Burns. The comic revolves around the Boys as they infiltrate "Herogasm," an annual party for Vought-sponsored superheroes to allow them a week-long orgy on a secret island. At the same time, the rest of the world Earth is under the impression all the heroes have banded together to prevent an alien invasion.

While Herogasm will remain relatively unchanged from the comics, the executive producer confirms at least one part they didn't adapt for The Boys: The sexual encounter between Soldier Boy and Homelander. "I love that scene and it's hilarious, but for a dozen reasons, all of which will be revealed when you see the season, it ultimately just didn't track," Kripke explained.

The comic book version of Soldier Boy is a chickenhearted parody of Captain America, who, more than anything, wants to be accepted into The Seven. This naïveté leads Homelander and the others to push the patriotic hero around and humiliate him. Meanwhile, the Amazon series iteration will operate differently, according to Soldier Boy actor Jensen Ackles. The relationship between the World War II hero and Homelander is described as "contentious," since they both see themselves as symbols of America. Ackles revealed how his upbringing helped with his portrayal of Soldier Boy and his toxic masculinity. Soldier Boy is the embodiment of toxic masculinity and, as Ackles says, much more like "your drunk and inappropriate uncle" than Captain America.

Despite removing the infamous scene, Kripke promised that the storyline would break fans' hearts in a separate interview. "One thing we managed is to get several genuinely emotional, heartbreaking scenes in that orgy. If there is anything that The Boys does well, we can break your heart in the middle of an orgy!"

The Boys Season 3 premieres its first three episodes on Amazon Prime Video June 3 before moving to a weekly release. The "Herogasm" episode is scheduled to drop June 24.
