The Boys star Giancarlo Esposito, known for playing cold, calculating villains across television, recently sparked speculation about whether or not he would be cast as Professor Charles Xavier when the Marvel Cinematic Universe is ready to introduce the character.

While that may be some ways away, the actor recently described his take on the character and how he would play it. As reported by ComicBook.com's Liam T Crowley, Esposito explained at Fan Expo in Boston, "I'd play that character with force, grace, and a calm. Someone who controls the chaos, but someone who also has the ability to uplift and inspire."

The actor previously expressed his desire to play Xavier, after confirming that he has been in talks with Marvel about appearing in the MCU as an as-of-yet undecided character. He stated, "So, there's been talk of Magneto, there’s been talk of Dr. Freeze, there has been talk of, who else are they talking about over there? Oh, Doom! And there is Professor X... I'm going to go and put it out in the universe that it is Professor X."

Over the last two decades, there have been a handful of actors who brought Professor X to life on the big screen, including, most notably, Sir Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy in Fox's X-Men franchise. Stewart recently returned to the role after five years in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, this time around, his depiction was more akin to the character many might recognize from X-Men: The Animated Series, with similar effects used for his psychic powers, on top of the yellow hoverchair introduced in the show.

Stewart has not ruled out a return to Professor X in the future. When asked about the potential for yet another return, the actor stated, "You know, the whole X-Men comic series is so huge, so vast, there might be an opportunity in which he comes back... We'll see." The last time he played the iconic superhero was in 2017's Logan, which was believed to be his farewell to the character, as it was Hugh Jackman's final performance as Wolverine.
