Gen V executive producer Michele Fazekas will reportedly return for Season 2 of The Boys spinoff series as the sole showrunner.

According to Deadline, Fazekas will serve as the only showrunner on Season 2 of Gen V, for which a green light from Prime Video is reportedly already anticipated. Fazekas serves as the co-showrunner on Season 1 of the series alongside her writing partner Tara Butters, who will be stepping away to spend time with her family. Butters reportedly intends to return to writing and producing in the future after some time away. Prior to Gen V, Fazekas and Butters served as co-showrunners on Agent Carter.

It was announced in September 2021 Fazekas and Butters had been brought on to helm the upcoming college-themed spinoff of The Boys. Craig Rosenberg, an executive producer on The Boys, will pen the script. With the upcoming release of Gen V, Prime Video will further expand The Boys universe beyond the release of the animated anthology series The Boys Presents: Diabolical and the web series Seven on 7.

Gen V Expands The Boys Universe

Gen V released its first trailer in December. Taking place in the same universe as The Boys, the series will follow superpowered students at the Godolkin University School of Crimefighting as they train to become Vought's next generation of superheroes. "I think people will be surprised as they come into the show, and the show evolves, the implications that Gen V has on The Boys," Amazon's Head of Television Vernon Sanders said. "The two shows have some really interesting connections. So I'm probably saying more than I should, but I'm really excited. We're thrilled with the results."

Other The Boys cast members reprising their roles for the spinoff include Colby Minifie as Ashley Barrett) and P. J. Byrne as Adam Bourke.

Gen V, at the time untitled, was announced in 2020 and described as "an irreverent, R-rated series that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities. Part college show, part Hunger Games -- with all the heart, satire and raunch of The Boys." The series stars Jaz Sinclair, Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, Shelley Conn, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sean Patrick Thomas and Marco Pigossi.

Gen V will premiere on Prime Video sometime in 2023. The first three seasons of The Boys are currently available to stream on Prime Video.
