In 2023, Gen V will officially debut as the next spin-off of The Boys. Gen V will provide another look at the story from a different setting in the same timeline. Instead of seeing the Supes as the appointed faces of Vought, fans get to see young Supes working their way through college in hopes of becoming one of The Seven.

With no official release date yet for Season 4 of The Boys, which has already begun filming, Gen V will be the perfect show to subside fans’ appetites in the meantime. There are some interesting facts to know about the superhero show before adding Gen V to the must-watch list.

10 Gen V Will Follow Young Supes In University

Like a mix between The Boys and Supernatural Academy, Gen V will follow young Supes who are studying to hone their crafts at Godolkin University. The college is designed specifically for Supes to help them not only live successful lives but also flourish under the guidance (and contractual obligations) of Vought.

Based on the first-look trailer, it’s no regular college experience. The Supes are covered in blood, seen escaping murderous clutches, using violent powers, and fighting one another on the campus.

9 Gen V Will Have A Similar Satirical Feel To The Boys

Given the intercut segments that showcase a fake Sesame Street clip combined with violent and bloody scenes, it’s clear this spin-off will have the same tone as The Boys. It will be dramatic and thrilling with comedy and political satire thrown in for good measure. Gen V is also one of the superhero shows where the villain is the main character.

In this case, however, the Gen-Vers represent modern society’s Gen-Zers and may very well fall into some of the same stereotypes. Indeed, the students comment about how they are virtually indestructible because they are “made of steel” and “superhuman.”

8 Some The Boys Characters Will Appear

While Gen V will largely feature an entirely new cast, there will be appearances from some characters from The Boys, including main, supporting, and guest characters. The trailer shows A-Train – one of The Boys characters with the best costumes - along with Ashley and Adam making an appearance of some kind on the show.

The other cast members, meanwhile, will include Jazz Sinclair, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Chance Perdomo, Shelley Conn, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Marco Pigossi, among others. Some of the actors previously starred in supernatural shows like Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Supernatural, while others are just making a name for themselves in Hollywood.

7 Production Wrapped In September 2022

According to many of the cast members on Twitter, production on Gen V officially wrapped in September 2022. This would make it possible for Gen V to debut on Amazon Prime Video at some point in early-to-mid 2023.

Gen V was filmed in Toronto, Ontario Canada on the campus of the University of Toronto Mississauga and in a local conservation area. The series was initially called "The Boys Presents: Varsity" but was renamed to "Gen V" just before filming wrapped up. Interestingly, The Boys is also filmed in Toronto.

6 There’s A Puppet Version Of The Deep

As showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed in a Tweet, Gen V will not only feature appearances from characters in The Boys, but also a puppet version of one of them. Once disgraced, banished, then accepted back to the Seven, The Deep will appear in a puppet form. He's a reprehensible character, as some may even say he was responsible for the single scene that ruined the amazing superhero show.

It's unclear how and why The Deep puppet will exist. Based on a Sesame Street-like show clip in the teaser trailer, it’s possible he could be from some twisted kids’ show that's owned and produced by Vought.

5 The University Is Probably An Awful Place

Vought would like fans to think that its schools are top-notch. Red River Institute was introduced in The Boys Presents: Diabolical and mentioned in The Boys, but the state of the school suggests that Godolkin University might be an awful place. The Boys fans will recall that Red River is an orphanage where parents sent kids who developed subpar superpowers, and thus were of no use to them.

One such resident was Victoria Neuman, who was unique in that she did possess tremendous powers but was sent to live there after accidentally murdering her parents with them. The belief is that once kids age out of Red River, they are sent to Godolkin where they engage in Hunger Games-like competitions. This allows them to gain favor with the Vought executives and gain prominent positions in the company.

4 The Students Compete Against Each Other

Gen V is described as “part college show, part Hunger Games.” Indeed, the students are forced to compete with one another. Here, it’s for good grades, to gain favor with the teachers, and to get a spot on the team, but the stakes are higher than in a traditional college.

The Supes are willing to do whatever is necessary to gain top ranking in the school. This means putting their physical and moral boundaries to the test.

3 There Will Be A Crossover

Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) in The Boys Season 3 episode "Herogasm."

Gen V will take place during a parallel storyline to The Boys, and Kripke confirmed to Deadline that there would be a crossover between the two shows. Kripke said, "We’re doing our best to design a universe that sees some of the issues and storylines in season 3 hand off to the first season in [Gen V].

Given this, many things that happen in the background at the school are in reaction to things that happened in Season 3 of The Boys. These storylines include the return of Soldier Boy, one of The Boys characters with no redeeming qualities. Gen V will also include new storylines to help kick off Season 4 of The Boys.

2 Jason Ritter And Clancy Brown Will Appear

Two big-name actors have also joined the cast of Gen V: Clancy Brown and Jason Ritter. Ritter is seen in the trailer as a Mr. Rogers-like host of a show called Avenue V, a clear parody of the musical comedy show Avenue Q.

Clancy Brown, meanwhile, is looking just as ominous as he has in shows like Billions and Dexter: New Blood. However, it’s unclear what role he will play and whether it will be in a single-episode appearance or a multi-episode arc. Brown is no stranger to superhero movies, having previously appeared in Daredevil and The Punisher, so he'd be a good addition to Gen V.

1 There's Much More Info Yet To Come

Even with the release of the teaser trailer, there still aren’t many details known about Gen V just yet. The teaser has bits of information and clips of scenes, which often include blood, guts, and gore.

From wild parties to disemboweled puppets and strange Supe abilities that haven’t been seen yet (like shooting intestines from hands), Gen V will likely be just as shocking, clever, gruesome, and satirical as The Boys. With no official release date yet, fans will have to wait for a second trailer to score more information on what’s to come.
